Howard police investigate three robberies in East Columbia

Howard County police are investigating a possible connection between three robberies on Thursday that occurred within a 30-minute time frame near Old Montgomery Road and Route 175 in Columbia.

According to police, about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, a man was crossing the Long Reach bridge when he was approached by two men. One of the men grabbed the man, and the other began to assault him, police said. After taking the man's phone, both men ran away, according to police, who also said the man was not injured seriously.

Shortly after that, another man was walking through the tunnel under Route 175 when he passed two men and a woman. One of the men demanded the man's phone while the other two stood a distance away, according to police. The man turned over his phone, police said.

Police said a third robbery occurred around the same time frame, when a man was walking toward Dobbin Center and was approached by three men, who stole his money and cell phone, according to police.

The investigation into these robberies is continuing.
