Two Baltimore men have been charged in the armed robbery of the Howard County Education Federal Credit Union in early August in Ellicott City.
Howard County police said Markus E. Fields, 27, and Timothy A. McNeal, 30, are facing charges of armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, theft and the use of a firearm in a felony. Both men are currently at the county jail, where Fields is being held on $250,000 bond and McNeal is being held without bond.
The bank's marketing director, Brenda Minnich, said she had no comment about the arrests made or the robbery.
On Aug. 4, Fields and McNeal walked into the bank in the 3400 block of Ellicott Center Drive, armed with guns and demanding money from employees. After the employees complied, police said the men forced them to the ground and bound them with zip ties. Both men then ran away with the cash.
No one was seriously injured, police said.
Assistant State's Attorney Carol Hanson has been listed as the public defender for McNeal, according to the Maryland Judiciary case search website, while no attorney has been listed for Fields. Hanson was not immediately available to comment.
The investigation led officers to the home of Fields and McNeal, where they served a search warrant and later found banded money and clothing that matched the robbers. Police said they do not know the relationship of the two men, who were taken into custody following the warrant.
