Competition couldn't hurt when it comes to the gas pump [Letter]

Regarding the Exxon station's recent opposition to the potential of a nearby competitor (Political Notebook, Oct. 10), I'm all for more competition like this in Columbia! I would prefer to patronize local businesses but not at the cost of 25 to 30 cents more per gallon when one can easily go down the road and buy gas for much less. Maybe if Columbia stations charged less, they would attract more business.
