Negative campaigning deserves voter rejection [Letter]

During the past week I received the following campaign mailings that tell the story of this election campaign:

From Democratic organizations, I found an anti-Larry Hogan mailing with no mention of his Democratic opponent; and two anti-Gail Bates mailings with no mention of her Democratic opponent.

Conversely, from Republican candidates, I found a mailing from Friends of Gail Bates discussing her experience on women's and fiscal issues, and two mailings from Allan Kittleman, one discussing his positions on education and one contrasting his campaign style with his opponent's.

In the prior month, we received seven mailings attacking Allan Kittleman from the Team Howard Slate, made up of most of our county's Democratic leaders. Since we have three registered Independents residing in our home, we represent the middle of the electorate that both parties are targeting.

I can only conclude that our county's Democratic Leadership prefers civility for ordinary citizens, but those leaders have chosen hostility, and therefore hypocrisy, for their own behavior. I hope the voters of Howard County will join me in choosing civility by rejecting the negative campaigning of many of the Democratic candidates and voting for candidates like Allan Kittleman and Gail Bates who kept their campaigns positive and focused on the issues.
