Fall registration filling up fast

Western Howard County travel baseball organization forms teams for 8U through 22U. Tryouts for various age groups will be as follows:

8U: Aug. 10 at 1 p.m., Aug. 17 at 1 p.m., and Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. (all on field No. 9 at Western Regional Park); 9U: Aug. 6 at 1 p.m., Aug. 10 at 5 p.m., and Aug. 17 at 5 p.m.; 10U: Aug. 10 at 3 p.m., and Aug. 17 at 3 p.m.; 11U: Aug. 17 at 5 p.m.; 12U: Aug. 10 at 3 p.m.; 13U: Aug. 10 at 5 p.m., Aug. 13 at 6 p.m., and Aug. 17 at 3 p.m.; 14U: Aug. 10 at 1 p.m., Aug. 16 at 9 a.m., and Aug. 23 at 9 a.m.; 15U: Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. and Aug. 24 at 5 p.m.; 16U: Aug. 23 at 9 a.m.

The Atholton Youth Recreation Association (AYRA) will conduct tryouts for the 2015 14U (players born after April 30, 2000) travel team on Aug. 10 from 1-3 p.m. at Atholton High School and Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at Schooley Mill Park. The team will play in the spring MABA travel league, as well as 3-4 tournaments throughout the season. The Elkridge Hurricanes are holding tryouts for the 2015 13U travel baseball team at Howard High School on the following dates: Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. Soccer

The Thunder SC Juventus U15 boys team is looking for committed and hard working players to add to its roster for the 2014-15 season. This is a NCSL Division 1 team located in Columbia. The team practices three times a week and plays two to three tournaments each season in addition to the regular NCSL league play. Soccer Association of Columbia is now registering players for SAC Training Academy Summer Camps scheduled throughout the summer. Players of all abilities, ages 5 to 14, can take part in SAC's new professionally run summer camp. Both full and half day sessions are offered. Golf

The First Tee of Howard County 13th annual charity outing is Aug. 8 at Fairways Hills Golf Club. There is a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. First Tee is seeking foursomes to participate, and would also like the support of local businesses in the community for sponsorship purposes. Funds raised go to providing the First Tee experience to almost 1,000 children. Tickets are $200 and can be purchased online at thefirstteehowardcounty.org or at 410-730-1114.

Registration is still open for the First Tee of Howard County this fall. The program provides classes for students between the ages of 5-17. The sessions are eight weeks and range from one to two hours long, depending on the age. Clubs are provided, if necessary. Interested individuals may register online at thefirstteehowardcounty.org.

Lacrosse

Zingos Lacrosse Club will hold open tryouts for the 2014-15 season. This year, the Club will have teams for high school graduating years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 (U15), 2020 (U13), 2021 (U13), 2022/23 (U11) and U9 age groups. Biking

Volunteer registration is now open for the 7th Annual 24 Hours of Booty Columbia. This year's charity cycling event is scheduled to roll on the Columbia Gateway Business Park loop from 2 p.m. Aug. 23 to 2 p.m. Aug. 24, when participants will be riding and raising funds to help fight cancer.

Approximately 170 volunteers are needed to support this year's Columbia ride in the following areas: packet pick-up, pre-event course preparation and maintenance, course marking/signage, food and beverage, campground management, hospitality, and parking and traffic control. All volunteers must register online at 24hoursofbooty.org (click on the volunteer tab).
