Basketball

The Howard County Elite Boys 9th grade team will be having tryouts for the 2015 AAU season on Feb. 28 and March 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Glenwood Community Center. Email BJ Borden at hbordenjr@aol.com if interested.

Celebration is holding tryouts March 9 and 10 for its 13U boys travel basketball team. The team will participate in tournament play throughout the Baltimore, Washington and Northern Virginia area through July. Weekly practices will focus on fundamentals, conditioning and increasing basketball knowledge. The ultimate goal is to prepare players for high school basketball. Soccer

The SAC U16 Boys United Blue travel soccer team is looking for players for the spring 2015 season. The team plays in NCSL Division 4. Interested and committed players should contact coach John Hain at jhain@comcast.net or Maureen Heim at mareenkheim@gmail.com.

Football

Registration is open for the 2015 Indoor and 2015 Fall football and cheer programs for the Columbia Ravens. Participants ages 5-14 are eligible to register. For more information go to columbiaravens.com.

Booster Clubs

The Lions' Pride, the Howard High School non-profit booster club, will host its major fundraiser event of the year — a Bull & Oyster Roast — on March 14 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. For more details, visit howardlionspride.org.

Running

Online registration is open for the Howard County Junior Striders spring track programs. There are two programs, one where kids will compete in track meets on the weekend and one where they do not. Programs start in mid-April after Spring Break. Go to bullseyerunning.com/youth/ for more information.

Applications are now being accepted for the Howard County Striders' David Tripp Scholar/Athlete awards. These awards are expected to total $6,000 in 2015 and are merit (not need) based. Only Howard County residents, who are graduating seniors from a high school in Howard County, are eligible. The intention is to recognize both male and female winners, as well as runners-up, provided that there are deserving candidates. The criteria for consideration includes outstanding achievement in the classroom and as a runner in cross country, track and/or road races. Camps

Registration is open for HCYP spring and summer basketball camps. The Spring Break camp runs March 30 to April 3, while the summer camps start as early as June 22 and go through mid-August. Go to hcyp.org for additional information and to register.
