Nguyen shines at USGA women's state team championships

Columbia's Bryana Nguyen, a senior at Atholton High School, participated in the 10th annual USGA women's state team championships Sept. 17-19 and ended up finishing in a tie for first individually. Her three-round total of 213 (6-under par) at the NCR Country Club in Ohio tied her with Alice Chen of New Jersey.

Nguyen finished as the only player in the field to shoot under par in all three rounds on the par-73 course. Her efforts also led team Maryland's charge to fifth place overall.

Over 50 Howard County Junior Striders competed at the cross country meet at Catoctin High on Sept. 22. Liam O'Connor, Ruthie Warman, Greta Sue Hanson, Ben Welton, Liam McCaffrey, Adam Lowe, Jackson Pittman and Noah Kim all placed 10th or better.
