Striders of all ages meet for weekly race

Forty-one runners of all ages ran the Howard County Striders "Meet of the Miles" at Oakland Mills High School. Carolyn Shadrick, 5, won the kids 100-meter dash, and 7-year-old Emmett Seybold was the 400-meter dash winner. For the adults, Elisha Peterson led the way for the men and Tasha Hogan was the woman's winner in the mile run.

Marriotts Ridge rising junior Bennett Buch has enjoyed some notable finishes in tournament play the last few months. Back in May, he was crowned champion of the AJGA Junior at Cattail Creek after winning a five-hole playoff over Brent Ito from New York. He had fired a two-round total of 145 (3-over par). Later, in early July at Old South Country Club, Buch finished in a tie for second at the AJGA Annapolis Junior. His three-round total was 216 (even par). Then, most recently, he finished among the top 15 amateurs at the Maryland Open played at Lakewood Country Club July 14-16 with a three-round total of 221 (8-over par).
