Volleyball
The Columbia Volleyball Club 16U Lightning won its second gold medal of the season at the Columbia 15-16 Presidents Fest on Feb. 7-8.
Just like the team did earlier this season during its gold medal performance at the Delaware Juniors 15-16 Mixed Invitational on Jan. 31, the Lightning achieved an undefeated record in pool-play matches this time around. The team then played a strong championship match against Southern Maryland Volleyball Club (SOMD) 16 Black. The Lightning went on to earn a three-set (25-21, 16-25, 15-9) victory.
Members of the team are Pia Michelitsch (Washington International School), Madison Paige (Long Reach HS), Sammy Lala (River Hill HS), Kaitlyn Young (Bowie HS), Angela Cottrell (Severna Park HS), Mitra Harrison (Catonsville HS), Saadia Sahadeo (Northwood HS), Emily Przybyla (Centennial HS), Sabrina Han (Centennial HS), Elena Breda (River Hill HS) and Elayna Williams (Mt. Hebron HS).
The team's coaches are Michael Rainbow and Monica Owensby.
Gymnastics
The women's compulsory teams from Top Flight Gymnastics competed in the Katie Baldwin Invitational on Jan. 30.
