Deborah Miller has been appointed director of cultural transformation for Howard County General Hospital, a move that hospital officials hope will improve the patient experience at the Columbia hospital.

Miller is a nurse with a Master's degree in organizational and human resource development. She also has worked 10 years in commercial real estate and 15 years in the travel industry.

Miller will be responsible for creating ways for hospital staff to make "an exemplary patient experience for every patient during every visit," according to a news release.

Steve Snelgrove, president of Howard County General, said improving patient experience is his "number one priority."

"Every patient should be satisfied with every encounter at our hospital every time," he said in a statement. "The talent, skills and experience that Debbie brings to this position will help staff throughout the hospital provide the best care possible in a compassionate, empathetic manner."

Howard County General Hospital is a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
