The Howard Community College Cross Country team traveled to Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sept. 27 to compete in the 31st Annual Greensboro Invitational.
The men's team came away with the Division III team title, while finishing second overall in the field that was also comprised of 4-year colleges and club teams.
Gary Smolyak (Atholton) continued to lead the team by placing second overall with a time of 26:43 on the 8k course.
He was followed by Jacob Staley (eighth in 27:34), Brooks Ward (15th in 28:06), Jacob Stolzenbach (39th in 29:54), Connor Livingston (42nd in 29:59), Brady Dumonchelle (53rd in 31:33) and Marriotts Ridge grad Gulraize Khan (68th in 33:58).
"This was a very strong showing for the team," said head coach Steve Musselman. "One of the guys turned an ankle during the course review the day before and could not go at race time. Like any good program; they pulled together and people stepped up. This was a very good trip."
The team will travel to Lehigh University on Oct. 4 to compete in the prestigious Paul Short Invitational. The Dragons will be the only community college in the field of 42 colleges in their division.
