Columbia Association's Dog Day Afternoon scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to rainy weather and forecasts predicting more storms.
Columbia Association spokesman David Greisman said the weather has left Columbia DogPark in poor conditions, so the event will be pushed to Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Columbia DogPark is located at 5901 Rivendell Lane, off Cedar Lane.
Greisman said updates will be provided with additional information about the weather and field conditions on Columbia Association's Facebook page and website. Updates are also available by contacting the Inclement Weather Hotline at 410-715-3154.
Owners and their dogs are invited to attend the free event, featuring contests, treats and activities held by Columbia Association, VCA Animal Hospitals and Raising K-9. The schedule includes Sportdog demo with Tecla's K-9 Academy at noon; Tricks for Treats Contest at 12:45 p.m.; Howling Contest at 1:30 p.m.; Biscuit Eating Contest at 2 p.m.; Best Tail Wagger Contest at 2:30 p.m.; conversational leashwork demo with Tecla's K-9 Academy at 3 p.m.; and Biggest/Smallest Dog Contest at 3:30 p.m.
Times and events are subject to change.
Music, food, pet demonstrations, painting, a moon bounce and caricature artists will also be available during the evening, with pet communications readings by pet communicator Emerald DuCoeur. Columbia Association will also sell official Dog Day Afternoon T-shirts for $10 or two for $15. Pet communications readings will be $10 for 10 minutes, caricature drawings are $5 for a black-and-white drawing and $10 for a color drawing.
Microchipping will also be available for a minimal fee, representatives said, and only cash will be accepted during Dog Day Afternoon.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local animal-related nonprofit, with collections of canned cat and dog food, dry cat and dog food, soft treats and biscuit-type treats, new dog and cat toys, blankets and towels, buckle- or martingale-type collars, leashes and gift cards from pet stores for emergency food and supplies accepted.
Parking is available at Columbia SportsPark or at Harper's Choice Middle School.
