Thirteen is a lucky number for Brian and Katie Evans.

The North Laurel couple started dating when they were 13 years old and got married 13 years later, on Sept. 13, 2014.

Last week, another big milestone for the pair happened – on Oct. 13. This time, the good news was a family affair.

The Evanses welcomed a new baby girl, Audrey Elaine Evans, at 11:23 a.m. last Tuesday. Just a few hours later, Brian's sister Cara Pugh and her husband Adam Pugh, of Sykesville, had a daughter of their own. Taylor Catherine Pugh was born at 3:19 p.m.

Both babies were born at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia.

Brian Evans said the shared birthday was a complete surprise: His wife was due the day before and his sister's due date was originally a week later.

But on Tuesday, both women found themselves waiting to deliver at the hospital. Cara Pugh had scheduled a Caesarean section for the afternoon, while Katie Evans had gone into labor in the morning.

They even had the same doctor.

"Right around the end of Katie's delivery, he said, 'Better hurry up, I've got a C-section at 1 p.m.' It was funny," said Brian Evans.

Evans expects the two newborn cousins will be friends growing up: "Cara and I were always really close. I figure we'll keep that going."

As will the family's appreciation of the number 13.

"It's always been a lucky number for us," Brian Evans said. "Stuff happens for us on the 13th, I guess."
