Columbia to consider adding sister city in Haiti

Columbia Association is considering adding a sister city in Haiti and is seeking planning committee volunteers, according to a news release.

The Haiti Sister City Planning Committee will consist of Columbia and Howard County residents and will work in collaboration with CA's International and Multicultural Programs Advisory Committee and the Build Haiti Foundation's Global Leadership Program.

The committee will work to develop a proposal to add the coastal community of Cap-Haitien in Haiti to Columbia's list of sister cities. The proposal will be submitted to the CA Board of Directors for approval in 2015.

If approved, Cap-Haitien would become Columbia's fourth sister city, alongside Cergy-Pontoise, France; Tres Cantos, Spain, and Tema, Ghana.

Located on the northern coast of Haiti, the city of Cap-Haitien is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a population of about 190,000 people.
