Boulton, Evans win contested Columbia Association races

Results are in from this weekend's elections in Columbia.

There will be a few fresh faces on Columbia Association's Board of Directors, with the election of three new members: Dick Boulton from Dorsey's Search, Janet Evans from Long Reach and Chao Wu from River Hill.

Boulton beat Dan Woodruff, 69 to 34, while Evans won against Edward Coleman with a 218-109 vote. Wu ran uncontested.

Incumbents Nancy McCord, of Wilde Lake, Reg Avery, of Oakland Mills, Brian Dunn, of Kings Contrivance, and  Gregg Schwind of Hickory Ridge were re-elected to CA's Board of Directors. All four ran unopposed.

The elections settled contested races for the village boards in Oakland Mills, Hickory Ridge and Kings Contrivance.

In Oakland Mills, where there were nine candidates for seven seats, Kay Wisniewski (384 votes), Jonathan Edelson (383 votes), Ginny Thomas (375 votes), Bill McCormack Jr. (367 votes), Paul Verchinski (316 votes), Marcia White (292 votes) and Bill Woodcock (248 votes) were elected to the board, edging out Fred Eiland (243 votes) and Daniel Kirk-Davidoff (232 votes), both of whom had run as part of a slate with White and Woodcock.

In Hickory Ridge, Tom Louden (449 votes), Michelle Wood (424 votes), Linda Hitzelberger (420 votes), Miles Coffman (412 votes) and Jerry Lioi (364 votes) were elected to the village board's five open seats. A sixth candidate, Celindah Grier, garnered 261 votes.

In Kings Contrivance, Shari Zaret (121 votes), Barbara Seely (115 votes), Jenna Salmon (112 votes) and Christiana Mercer Rigby (103) won election. Lilah Haxton, the fifth candidate, received 73 votes.

In the other villages, elections for the village board were uncontested or -- in the case of River Hill -- devoid of candidates.

• Harper's Choice Village Board: Stephen Cook, Robert Fontaine and Benjamin Rubin (two seats vacant)

• Long Reach Village Board: Nina Basu and William Taylor

• Owen Brown: Kecia Rome and Wayne Eldrige (one seat vacant)

• River Hill: three vacant seats

• Town Center: Joel Broida, Kirsten Coombs and Lynn Foerhkolb
