The Bain Center in Columbia is set to reopen on Monday after last month's cold temperatures caused a sprinkler head to rupture and water damaged the floors and walls.
County official said the Feb. 19 pipe break resulted in more than 2 inches of water on the floor of the center.
The facility now boasts new hardwood floors, freshly painted walls and new carpet, according to the center's online newsletter.
The center was closed during the repairs, which the county estimated as costing close to $120,000.
"We have worked tirelessly to be able to reopen as quickly as possible given the extent of the damage," Department of Citizen Services Director Lois Mikkila said in a released statement. "The collaboration between our staff, other county agencies and community partners around this effort was extraordinary."
Beginning Monday, the center will be open weekdays only, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while final repair work is completed. Evening and weekend hours should be reinstated in early April.
Programming at the Bain Center includes services and activities for seniors, including health and wellness classes, weekly movies, special concerts and entertainment, a daily meal and other activities.
The reopening will be celebrated Wednesday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m., with light refreshments in the center's lobby.
