Administrators union endorses three for Howard BOE

The Howard County Administrators Association is recommending one incumbent and two newcomers for the Board of Education with the election just weeks away.

HCAA, which represents 300 school-based and central office administrators, announced Thursday that it is recommending Sandra French, Christine O'Connor and Mike Smith to fill three of the four open seats on the Howard County Board of Education.

"In reviewing all the candidates, we felt that Sandra French, Christine O'Connor and Mike Smith will help fulfill the vision of the school system," HCAA President Edward Cosentino said in a statement. "They are strong advocates for what is in the best interests of our students, and we believe they will steer our school system forward in a positive direction."

Now in its 16th year, this is the first time that HCAA has publicly supported candidates for the Board of Education.

French, O'Connor and Smith are joined on the ballot by Bess Altwerger, Dr. Zaneb Beams, Allen Dyer, Dan Furman and Cindy Vaillancourt.

Voters can choose up to four candidates for the board when they head to the polls Nov. 4.
