Democrat Guy Guzzone said Thursday he will seek a seat in the state legislature in 2014, removing him from the list of speculative candidates to succeed Ken Ulman as Howard County executive.
"I considered it, believe me," Guzzone said about a county executive run. "I feel like I've had some good success down here (in Annapolis) in the past couple years. It's where I feel I can do the most good."
Guzzone, who considered running for county executive in 2006, added the decision to not run for county executive was "what I felt was best."
While he has ruled out county executive, Guzzone, who has been a House of Delegates representative for District 13 since 2007, has not decided whether he will run for re-election in the House or pursue the District 13 Senate seat, which will be vacant following Sen. Jim Robey's retirement.
Guzzone, 49, said the same factors that went into his decision regarding county executive will affect his decision in the legislature.
