The Elkridge-based GP Strategies Corp. is relocating its global headquarters to the former Ryland Group building in downtown Columbia beginning in August, the company and building owner Howard Hughes Corp. announced Monday.
GP Strategies, which provides training, e-learning, management consulting and engineering services, is moving approximately 300 employees into three floors of the building, which is located at 70 Corporate Center.
"We are excited about moving our headquarters to 70 Corporate Center. The move achieves important goals for bringing all of our Columbia area employees under one roof, providing a working environment that's suited to doing business in the 21st century and securing space for continued growth," said Sharon Esposito-Mayer, executive vice president and CFO for GP Strategies.
"Aside from the working environment, we like the location in Town Center and the range of amenities available for our employees."
The company signed a 12-year lease with Howard Hughes, which is the chief developer and land owner in downtown Columbia.
"After years of thoughtful planning, determination and collaboration, the revitalization of downtown Columbia is now moving forward," said John DeWolf, senior vice president for Howard Hughes.
"This is the first world headquarters to establish its home in the redevelopment, and we expect other businesses to be attracted to the area's lifestyle and amenities."
Howard Hughes is working closely with Howard County government to revitalize Columbia's downtown, which is outlined in the 30-year Downtown Columbia Master Plan.
"The commitment from GP strategies to 64,000 square feet of office space is a reaffirmation of the new growth and revitalization occurring in Downtown Columbia," said Howard County Executive Ken Ulman.
"This is a significant agreement not just in terms of space and demand to be in Columbia, but also in terms of the type of tenant – global high tech consulting. Our plan for Downtown Columbia is gaining momentum, and this agreement will add to that energy and vitality. We welcome GP Strategies and applaud their decision to relocate to 70 Corporate Center."
