Man robbed of wallet in Columbia after offering to help stranger

A man who offered to give a stranger a few dollars to purchase cigarettes was robbed by the man he offered to help in Columbia on Sunday, according to Howard County police.

Police said the victim was exiting Second Chance Saloon located in the Oakland Mills Village Center at 2:43 p.m on Oct. 20 when he was approached by a stranger who asked for money to purchase cigarettes, police said.

The victim agreed to give the man a few dollars as they walked to the 9600 block of Whiteacre Road. As the victim took out his wallet to get the money, the man grabbed it and ran, police said.

Police described the man as a black male, approximately 45-years-old, 6-feet and 145 pounds, wearing a blue shirt with blue horizontal stripes and long dark pants.
