A 21-year-old Columbia man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday in the armed robbery of a Columbia gas station and convenience store, according to State's Attorney spokesman Wayne Kirwan.
Michael Elliott Dickey Jr., of the 8800 block of Flowerstock Row, was sentenced in Howard County Circuit Court by Judge Timothy J. McCrone after pleading guilty to armed robbery and a gun charge.
Dickey pleaded in connection to the January armed robbery of an Exxon, located in the 8200 block of Snowden River Parkway, during which one robber threw hot coffee on the gas station clerk.
Police said the clerk reported that, as he opened the cash register to process the transaction for the coffee, one man threw the hot coffee at him while a second man then pushed the clerk to the floor, police said.
The two men took out handguns, stole money from the register, and fled, according to police.
According to the Kirwan, the statement of the facts revealed that Dickey and his accomplice, Stanley Colby Berry, took approximately $150.00 from both drawers.
