Howard police: Boy, 6, dead after Columbia pedestrian collision

A 6-year-old boy died Monday afternoon after county police responded to a pedestrian-vehicle collision in Columbia.

Isaac Gill, a kindergartener at Longfellow Elementary School, was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital after being transported at 2 p.m. in critical condition.

His mother, Nazia Gill, 38, was transported to Howard General with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

Police are investigating the collision involving the Gills that occurred around 2 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Harpers Farm Road and Twin Rivers Road.

The driver of the vehicle, an adult male, who struck the two victims remained at the scene. He was not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time and the case is “under active investigation” as police work to determine the cause of the collision, police said.

The road, where Harpers Farm Road meets Twin Rivers Road, was closed for approximately 90 minutes Monday.
