Man arrested, charged with murder in fatal Columbia shooting

A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a man in Columbia earlier this month, Howard County police said Friday.

Jerome Tyrell Thomas, of no fixed address, was arrested at an Annapolis motel Friday for the May 1 fatal shooting of Anthony Tayvon McNeil, 24, of Baltimore.

Thomas is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and various firearm charges, according to police.

The shooting took place at the intersection of Governor Warfield Parkway and Twin Rivers Road after a fight broke out among multiple people that resulted in McNeil being shot multiple times, police said.

McNeil was found in a nearby parking lot and transported to Howard County General Hospital where police said he was pronounced dead.

Thomas is currently in the booking process. Howard police said the investigation is ongoing.
