Police identify man shot in Columbia apartment on Thanksgiving

Howard County police identify a man shot inside a Columbia apartment on Thanksgiving.

Howard County police on Friday identified a man who was injured in a Thanksgiving day shooting inside a Columbia apartment.

Police said Elijah Walter Jackson, 29, is in stable condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, after he was shot in an apartment in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the suspect wore a mask, knocked on an apartment door, where a woman answered and the suspect forced themselves inside and began shooting. Jackson was shot several times before the suspect fled the apartment.

Officers arriving to the shooting stopped a car leaving the apartment complex. The driver was a resident of the apartment and a passenger, Brandon Leonard Marine, 29, of Catonsville, who had also been inside the apartment where the shooting occurred, had a minor injury to his hand, police said.

A Howard County police spokeswoman said it is unclear how Marine's injury occurred, or whether he had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital and had been released.

Police have not identified a suspect.

Court records show that in 2010 Jackson was sentenced to five years in prison for drug possession with intent to distribute.
