Howard County police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that left a 17-year-old dead in West Friendship on Tuesday night.
At around 9:28 p.m., a 2017 Freightliner was making a left turn from northbound Route 32 onto westbound Interstate 70 when a 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque traveling southbound on 32 struck the tractor-trailer and continued underneath it, police said.
Laith Basil Aboarob, of Clarksville, the driver and sole occupant of the Land Rover, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the Freightliner, Donald Gary Compton, 63, of Rocky Ridge, was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.
Route 32 was closed in both directions for approximately four hours Tuesday evening.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and the Howard police department said it is continuing to look into possible contributing factors, including speed.
