THB Neighborhood Bagelry & Deli, the local bagel chain formerly known as Towson Hot Bagels, is set to open its fifth location this week in Columbia.
The new restaurant, located in the Columbia Crossing shopping center, will be largest location to date among its four other locations in Maryland, according to a news release.
The fifth location of the franchise was previously set to open this summer, but coronavirus-related delays caused construction to temporarily halt. Over the summer, work toward opening started back up, according to owner and CEO Tony Scotto. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Thursday.
Since the pandemic began in March, Scotto said he’s introduced kiosks, in addition to carryout, at his four other locations to create contactless options for customers, a feature he said will also be available at the new Columbia location.
“We’re working to make sure the customers feel safe and to give the hospitable feeling we were giving before everything got started,” Scotto said.
THB Bagelry celebrated its 20th anniversary last year after opening the first location in Towson in 1999. THB has expanded to locations in Canton, Charles Village and Timonium since then. Scotto, who immigrated from Italy, owns the chain along with his brother, sister and cousin.
This is a return to Columbia for the Scotto family, who previously owned the Columbia restaurant Strapazza.
“We have a lot of customers who [said] you have to open something in Howard County. It’s a good fit for us,” Scotto said. “We found what I think is a great spot.”
THB locations offer freshly made New York-style bagels, coffee, smoothies, deli sandwiches, salads and more. The Columbia site will debut four new menu items that will be exclusive to this location until the end of 2020: honey walnut cream cheese, jalapeno cream cheese, the Avo-Mozz Panini and the Fresh N Green salad.
