The Howard County Police Department is investigating a fatal two-car collision that happened Monday night in Mount Airy.
Michael Todd Shultzaberger, 53, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Impala southbound on Route 27 at around 8:47 p.m. Monday when he attempted to turn left onto Penn Shop Road and struck a 2016 Subaru Outback traveling northbound on Route 27, according to police.
Shultzaberger, of Frederick, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Lori Plourde Cunningham, 56, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, who was driving the Outback, was transported to Frederick Health Hospital. Cunningham was later transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and is currently in stable condition, police said Tuesday.
Howard police said the cause of the collision, which closed the intersection for about four hours Monday night, is still under investigation.
