Lightning struck a house in Howard County on Monday evening amid severe thunderstorms across Maryland, a county fire and rescue services spokesperson confirmed.
The house, located in the 500 block of Sykesville Road, sustained minor damage, with a charred basement door and blacked-out electrical outlets, said Maria Hogg, acting spokesperson for the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
The Howard County department, the Sykesville Fire Department and the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the call, as it was believed to be a potential fire. However, when they arrived, there were no flames or smoke.
The units left the scene after ensuring everyone was safe, according to Howard fire officials.
