Striders to host youth cross country meet

Running

The Howard County Striders will host a youth cross country meet for kids in elementary and middle school at Centennial High on Sunday, Oct. 19. Registration ($5) begins on site at 11:30 a.m., course walks begin at 12:45 p.m. and races begin at 1:30 p.m. Kids born 2008 and after will run a 1k, if born in 2006 or 2007 they will run a 2k, if born in 2002 through 2005 they will run a 3k and if born in 2000 or 2001 they will run a 4k. Parents are not allowed to run with their kids unless they were born in 2008 or after. Email coachlang@hotmail.com with questions.

Basketball

The Crusader Nation basketball program will hold tryouts for eighth grade boys (14U) from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Oct. 14 at Leadership Through Athletics in Lansdowne. Email fmccatho@aol.com, call 410-984-4092, or visit crusadernation.org for more information.

Soccer

The Soccer Association of Columbia is registering players for a School's Out Holiday Clinic on Oct. 17. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m.-noon, 1-4 p.m. and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Go to sackick.com to register.

The SAC Juniors program is a fun-filled introduction to soccer. SAC offers six, one-hour weekday or weekend sessions for players ages 3 to 4 throughout the year in Howard County. Players receive an Under Armour jersey. Topics include body awareness, agility, balance and ball control. The Baltimore Bays Chelsea Dynasty girls soccer team will hold supplemental tryouts for their U15 team for winter/spring league play. The team is based in Columbia and is playing two years up to prepare for college showcase tournaments. The team is seeking three talented players to compete in a year-round program.

The Maryland Elite Volleyball Club will launch for players in the Baltimore-Metro region this fall. An information session will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Get Good Facility in Laurel from 4-8 p.m. Tryouts will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 for players ages 13 to 17.
