Howard County police arrested a 40-year-old man on Friday they said shot another man in a Columbia parking lot Thursday night.

Conrad Louis Simpson, 40, has been charged with attempted armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, use of a handgun to commit a felony, and reckless endangerment, police said.

Officers responded at 9:48 p.m. to the 5400 block of Harpers Farm Road for a report of a shooting victim. The victim, who police identified as Darnell Rasheen Furby, 21, of Columbia, is in fair condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
