Art exhibits

•The Howard County Arts Council presents the exhibits "Building Perspectives" by Ashley DuRoss, Lillian Hoover, Robert Tennenbaum, April Rimpo and K. Velis Turan in Gallery I and "Kaleidoscope" by Katie Chen in Gallery II through Friday, Oct. 17, at 8510 High Ridge Road in Ellicott City. Knitting, crocheting

A community knitting and crocheting group seeks volunteers 55 and older to knit afghans, blankets, baby wear and other items for local charities, hospitals and senior centers. The group meets at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Kiwanis Wallas Recreation Center, 3300 Norberts Way. Acrylic yarn donations are appreciated. Information: 410-313-4704.

Fall Festival

Waverly Elementary School, 10220 Wetherburn Road, will host its Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, with food, games, children's activities, scarecrow-making, a bake sale, cake walk and a visit from Princess Elsa and Spider-Man. Information: 410-707-7200.

Fundraising dinner

The Knights of Columbus host an Italian dinner fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive. The all-you-can-eat menu includes pasta and meatballs, pizza, salad, dessert and drinks. There will be live music, a raffle and door prizes. Free-will donations suggested. Information: 410-461-9112.

Blood pressure screenings Stop in from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays for free blood pressure readings by a registered nurse. Information: 410-313-1425.

Genealogy workshop The workshop on immigration runs from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 8. At some point, every person's ancestors came from somewhere else. There are two basic types of immigration records, ship's lists and naturalization papers.

'Halloween Spooktacular' A baked potato bar lunch and show with musical entertainment by the Grey Legends will begin at noon Friday, Oct. 31. Cost is $15. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

Ask the Pharmacist Don Hamilton will provide the latest information on medications at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27. Bring questions, drug lists or prescription containers to discuss concerns.

Brain fitness Robin Zahor presents a brain exercise program to help keep the mind sharp at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23.
