Registration is under way for the Howard County Arts Council's fall educational programs at the Howard County Center for the Arts, 8510 High Ridge Road in Ellicott City. The art council offers classes and workshops for ages 5 to adult beginning the week of Sept. 8. Registration and full class listings are available at hocoarts.org. Howard County farmers' markets feature locally grown produce, baked goods, fruits, flowers, transplants, organically grown produce and specialty items. The season runs through the last week in November at these locations:

The Howard County Conservancy offers free guided hikes and talks on the second Saturday of each month. Visitors can enjoy an easy walk in the meadows and woods of the conservancy, 10520 Old Frederick Road in Woodstock. Information: call 410-465-8877 or go to hcconservancy.org.
The Howard County Arts Council seeks nominations for its Howie Awards, honoring individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the arts. Awards will be presented at the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County on March 28. Nomination forms are available online at hocoarts.org. Award nominations must arrive at the arts council office via mail, fax, email or hand delivery no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 30. The co-ed Elkridge Youth Organization fall soccer program is accepting registrations for ages 4-18. No tryouts are required, and all players receive substantial playing time. The Howard County Bureau of Environmental Services reminds residents to recycle electronic devices. Drop-off locations include the Alpha Ridge Landfill Residents' Convenience Area, 2350 Marriottsville Road. The facility is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and accepts televisions, computers, keyboards, printers, scanners, laptops, VCRs, radios and other electronics. Also, Best Buy's Customer Take-Back Program allows customers to bring in old TVs (32 inches or smaller) at no charge. The offer is limited to two televisions per person per day. Console televisions are not accepted.
