Man arrested in fatal shooting of acquaintance in Howard County, police say

Howard County police charged a Hyattsville man with murder in connection with the shooting death of another man in Dayton on Friday afternoon.

Rodolfo Miguel Cervantes, 31, of Hyatsville, was found dead in an outbuilding on a property in the 4900 block of Ten Oaks Road in Dayton at about 3 p.m. Police had been called to the area for a report of shots fired.

Police charged Ismael Guerra Vasquez, 36, with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and the use of a firearm during a felony.

A witness gave a description of the suspect's vehicle, and officers found Vasquez driving nearby in a vehicle that matched the description. Police said the two men knew each other and had a "brief confrontation" before the shooting.

Vasquez was being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center on Saturday.
