Police ID victim in fatal Howard Co. crash

The woman killed over the weekend after driving the wrong direction on a southern Howard County road was identified by Howard County police Monday.

The victim and driver was identified as Mayra Liseth Maldonado Vasquez, 27, of Guatemala. Police said Vasquez was not wearing a seat belt. 

Vasquez was driving an Acura with a passenger westbound in the eastbound lanes of MD 32 at around 4:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 when she struck a tow truck head-on, police said. The crash took place near the intersection of Dorsey Run Road in the AnnapolisJunction area.

The passenger in the car was identified as Alexander Martinez-Guerra, 34, of College Park. Martinez-Guerra, who remains, as of Monday, in critical condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, was wearing a seat belt, police said. 

The driver of the tow truck, identified as Paul Travis Grove, 28, from the 100 block of Sharon Court in Laurel, is in stable condition at Shock Trauma as of Monday, police said.
