Concert series

The 35th annual Montpelier Summer Concert Series continues at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, with Jennifer Rose and the Mixx performing country and rock music at Montpelier Mansion, 9650 Muirkirk Road in Laurel. Free. Information: 301-776-2805.

Bluegrass music

'Seussical'

Laurel Mill Playhouse's Summer Youth production, the musical "Seussical," tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos. Performances run weekends through Aug. 17 at Laurel Mill Playhouse, 508 Main St. in Laurel. Information: 301-617-990.

History program

The second annual "Blast-in-the-Past: A Hands-On History Playground," will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 7-10, at Montpelier Mansion, 9650 Muirkirk Road in Laurel. Children can pretend they're farmers tending their crops, be a town crier, shop in the outdoor market, try their hand at old-fashioned trades and more. Tickets are $1 a day for Prince George's and Montgomery county residents, $2 a day for nonresidents. Information: 301-377-7817.

Saturday night movies

Monthly movies for family viewing will be shown at 6 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road. Each ticket includes popcorn and a drink. Registration is open for the spring and summer movie lineup. Tickets are $4 per person; $2 for center members; free for children 4 and younger, but they must be registered. Crab feast

The Elkridge Senior Center will host a crab feast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at 6540 Washington Blvd. The menu includes Maryland crab soup, barbecue chicken, cole slaw, corn bread, watermelon and hard-shell crabs.
