A 43-year-old man has been indicted in a break-in and attempted rape case from 1997 after a fingerprint on a window screen led police to the man earlier this year.
Marco Moncello Kornegay of Riverdale now faces charges including first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sexual assault, first-degree burglary and indecent exposure. He is free on $150,0000 bond, according to electronic court records.
According to charging documents, Kornegay was naked except for a bandana over part of his face when he broke into an apartment in the 11000 block of Little Patuxent Parkway in July 1997 and attacked a woman.
He later told her to go into the bathroom shower and disappeared. A window was left open and a fingerprint was found on the screen.
A cold case investigator tied Kornegay to the fingerprint in January. In early April, the victim identified Kornegay from photos shown to her by police. He was arrested May 2 and indicted by a grand jury Wednesday.
