Several people suffered minor injuries in two separate house fires in Howard and Anne Arundel counties late Friday night.
In Howard County, the Department of Fire & Rescue Services responded to a 911 call just before midnight reporting a fire with residents trapped in a single-family home near the 6300 block of Loudon Ave. in Elkridge.
Nine adults and an infant escaped, with two adult males jumping from the second floor as emergency units arrived on the scene.
Heavy winds fanned the fire, which engulfed and heavily damaged the structure. Approximately 60 firefighters from Howard, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties brought it under control in about an hour.
One adult male was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries while a Howard County police officer was taken to Howard County General Hospital for smoke inhalation.
No damage estimate was available for the fire, which remains under investigation by fire department officials.
Also late Friday evening, a two-alarm Anne Arundel County house fire in the 4700 block of Bayfields Road in Galesville injured a county firefighter.
No one was home at the time of the fire, which sent one Anne Arundel County firefighter to Anne Arundel Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said county fire officials. Damage was estimated at $90,000.
