Elkridge man arrested in stabbing at Ellicott City restaurant

Howard County police arrested and have charged an Elkridge man in the stabbing of a security officer at an Ellicott City restaurant last week, police said Tuesday.

According to police, officers were called to La Palapa Grill in the 8300 block of Main Street at about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday on reports of a stabbing. They found a security officer, Brian Johnson, 44, of Rockville suffering from stab wounds to the neck.

He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was treated and released Tuesday.

During the investigation, officers identified a suspect, Joshuwa Wayne Collins, 21, of the 7100 block of Beverly Drive in Elkridge. He was arrested in Glen Burnie on Monday.

Police charged Collins with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault, as well as reckless endangerment. He is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.

According to authorities, Johnson was escorting a man out of the restaurant for disorderly behavior when he resisted and cut him with a sharp object. The man and his friends then fled, police say.
