Howard County pair charged in Woodbine robbery, theft

A man and woman have been charged by Howard County police in connection with last week's robbery of a gas station employee in Woodbine.

Kyle Benjamin Shields, 23, of the 15900 block of Old Frederick Road and Brandi Dawn Sexton, 22, of the 3900 block of Woodbine Road were both charged with robbery, assault, and theft. An employee of a BP gas station in the 15800 block of Frederick Road, reported that a man and woman assaulted him Oct. 13 and stole a bank bag, cash, his credit cards and the keys to his car, which they then used to flee the scene. The pair then withdrew cash from the man's bank account at several ATMs.

The gas station employee reported that he knew Sexton as an acquaintance but did not know Shields. Shields was arrested Tuesday at his home in Woodbine and is being held at the Howard County Detention Center, and has a criminal record stretching back to 2008, including charges of drug possession and drunk driving.

Sexton was arrested Monday in another jurisdiction for unrelated charges, police said. Court records indicate there are a string of active criminal charges pending against her, including lying to an officer, theft and drug possession. She is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
