Art exhibits The Columbia Association Art Center kicks off its fall season with two solo exhibits by local painters. New season Howard Community College's student alumni theater group, Arts Collective, opens its 16th season with the musical, "On Broadway," beginning Thursday, through Sunday, Oct. 17. Open house Everyone is invited to "A Day in the Life of a Farmer," from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Sharp's at Waterford Farm, 4003 Jennings Chapel Road in Brookeville. Included in the program is a class on beekeeping and farm crops. Everyone gets to feed the animals, go through the corn maze, take a hayride and harvest a pumpkin. Cost is $6.75 per person. Open house Howard Community College celebrates its 40th anniversary with an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. Members of the faculty will lead interactive workshops featuring EMT techniques, the language and culture of the Middle East, culinary demonstrations, yoga techniques, motorcycle training, the science of encrypting messages and more. 'Celebration of Sports' Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks has announced that Elise Ray will be the keynote speaker at the annual "Celebration of Sports" at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Turf Valley Resort and Conference Center in Ellicott City. Ray was captain of the 2000 United States women's gymnastics team that competed in Sydney, Australia. Gala Gilchrist Hospice Care's 25th annual Taste & Auction of Howard County will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at Turf Valley, 2700 Turf Valley Road in Ellicott City.
