Open house Kinetics Dance Theatre will hold an open house from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 2 at 3280 Pine Orchard Land, Ellicott City. A variety of classes are offered, including ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip-hop, musical theater, creative dance, dance fundamentals, as well as specialty classes in Pilates, yoga and fitness. Book sale Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church will hold its annual book sale from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at the church, 14551 Burntwoods Road in Glenwood. Event includes more than 20,000 books for sale. There will also be a large assortment of DVDs, videos, CDs, tapes and records. Children's books and paperback books will be priced at 50 cents and hardbacks will sell for $1. 'Pooches' Pool Party' A swim/splash party for dogs and their human buddies will be held Sept 11 at the Roger Carter Recreation Center, 3676 Fel's Lane in Ellicott City. Session one takes place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; session two will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per pooch. No fee for people, no more than two people per dog, handlers must be 18 and older, no one younger than 12 admitted, no more than one dog per handler. Dogs must be non-aggressive and peer-friendly. Golf tournament Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks presents the Celebration of Sports Gold Tournament on Oct. 14 at Timbers at Troy Golf Course in Elkridge. In addition to placement awards, prizes include longest drive holes, closest to the pin holes, and hole-in-one contests. Fees are $340 per foursome/$85 individual, and include greens fees, golf cart use, awards, special hole prizes, driving range use and lunch.
