Blood donations

The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region of the American Red Cross is requesting blood donations. Eligible donors can call 800-GIVE-LIFE to schedule an appointment. Platelet donors should call 800-272-2123.

Focus group

Howard County General Hospital's Center for Breast Care is looking for women who are living with metastatic breast cancer to participate in a focus group to help determine the services and resources needed in the area. Women interested in participating should contact Tina Evans, 410-884-4650 or cevans@hcgh.org.

The center guides women dealing with cancer through diagnostic and treatment options and includes personal support and counseling.

Spiritual care volunteers Howard County General Hospital is seeking volunteers to provide multidenominational spiritual care for patients and their families at the hospital, 5755 Cedar Lane, Columbia.

The 16-week training program will be directed by the hospital's pastoral care department and held Tuesday evenings beginning Sept. 21. Graduates are asked to volunteer two hours a week for at least a year. Registration deadline is Sept. 1. Information: Chaplain Jack Dunlavey, 410-740-7898.

Health education programs Howard County General Hospital will sponsor the following programs. Unless otherwise noted, all programs will be held at the Wellness Center's Medical Pavilion, 10710 Charter Drive, Suite 100, Columbia. Adult, child and infant CPR: Earn a two-year American Heart Association CPR completion card, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 12 and Aug. 30. Cost $48.
