'Roads to Rails: The Thomas Viaduct'

Exhibit opening on Saturday, July 3, and continuing through Nov. 7 at the B&O; Railroad Museum, 2711 Maryland Ave. in Ellicott City, explains how the viaduct was built and contains images and pictures of the viaduct in use. Visitors can also learn about Phillip Thomas, president of the B&O; Railroad for whom the bridge is named, and the engineer, Benjamin Latrobe. The viaduct, which spans the Patapsco River in Relay, was completed July 4, 1835. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays. Information: 410-461-1945.

'Stitches in Time/Threads of Change: An Exhibition of Maryland Community Quilts'

Exhibit opens Friday, July 2, at the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum, 300 Oella Ave. and continues through March 31. A reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 2, and features the unveiling of the "Banneker Historical Quilt," a project more than five years in the making. Free. Soccer

Registration is under way for the Elkridge Youth Organization fall soccer program for players ages 4-18. Games will be played at Rockburn Park. There are no tryouts required and all players will get substantial playing time. Regular registration ends Wednesday, June 30; late registration ends Aug. 15. Day camp

Glen Mar United Methodist Church will offer eight nondenominational day camps for elementary school-age children at 4701 New Cut Road. The different camps run Monday, June 28, through Aug. 6, and offer outdoor exploration, summer sports and science experimentation. 'Much Ado About Nothing'

Performances by the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company will be held through July 11 at Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, 3691 Sarah's Lane. Shows at 8 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays and 5 p.m. Sundays. Civil War exhibit

"Civil War: The Maryland Story," an exhibit highlighting the presidential election of 1860, continues through Sunday, June 27, at the B&O; Railroad Museum, 2711 Maryland Ave., Ellicott City.
