The Howard County Conservancy welcomed a barred owl with injured wings to its education center. The conservancy spent two years developing programs, building an owl enclosure and completing federal and state permits to house an owl. The owl arrived Jan. 15 from a rehabilitation center in Northern Virginia. It has been certified non-releasable by a veterinarian.

The owl will be used to teach kindergarten through fourth-grade students on field trips to the conservancy, as well as for many public programs.
