Ellicott City liquor store suspended, fined for selling to minors

Baltimore Sun

Owners of a liquor store in Waverly Woods were fined $2,000 and ordered to stop selling alcoholic beverages for three days starting at 6 a.m. Dec. 16 after a second incident this year of selling to minors.

Howard County's Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board issued the order Tuesday to Richard Brunatti and Michael Platt, the two licensees of Your Wine and Spirit Shoppe at 10805 Birmingham Way, Ellicott City.

On Jan. 24, county police found three underage people in a car with three bottles of alcohol after a traffic stop. One young woman said they bought the rum and champagne at the Waverly Woods store with a fake identification card. Platt said he'd sold the bottles but admitted to police that the card did not look genuine.

In an incident June 3, a 19-year-old police cadet working with county officers bought a six-pack of beer from a clerk at the store after presenting his provisional driver's license showing he was underage. The owners have 10 days to appeal.
