A teenager accused of plotting to kill her father two years ago is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Howard County Circuit Court for the start of her trial.

Morgan Lane Arnold, who is now 16, is facing first-degree murder and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors allege she and her boyfriend plotted to kill Arnold's father, well-known businessman Dennis Lane, 58, who was stabbed to death in his Ellicott City home in May 2013.

Last year, Arnold pleaded not criminally responsible for the charges by reason of insanity. Her defense team tried to get her case transferred to juvenile court, but a judge ruled she would be tried as an adult.

County prosecutors had initially filed notice they would seek life without parole if Arnold is convicted, but withdrew that notice in October.

Arnold's boyfriend at the time of the killing, Jason Bulmer, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, admitting he fatally stabbed Lane. Bulmer, who was 19 at the time of Lane's death, was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
