Lightning starts house fire in Howard County; three firefighters suffer heat exhaustion

Lightning set a house in Clarksville on fire early Tuesday night, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

The fire began around 6:50 p.m. in the 5200 block of Sweet Meadow Lane. A neighbor called 911 after hearing a loud noise and stepping outside to see the roof of the house ablaze.

The residents were not at home during the fire, which affected the roof and attic. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.

Three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and were taken to Howard County General Hospital for a precautionary evaluation.
