MARC station reopens after bathroom supplies prompted evacuation

The Dorsey MARC station in Elkridge was evacuated and Camden Line rail service was diverted for several hours Tuesday morning while police investigated a suspicious package that turned out to be "bathroom supplies," authorities said.

Police determined a black plastic bag left on a bench in the waiting area of the station was not a threat after a robot was used to scan the bag, according to the fire marshal's office.

Police and firefighters were called to the station in the 7100 block of Route 100 shortly before 6:30 a.m. after a commuter noticed the bag and called 911. A fire marshal bomb dog was also at the scene.

MARC Camden Line service returned to a normal scheduled after it was suspended at the Dorsey station while police investigated, Maryland Transit Administration officials said. Penn Line Service was operating on time.

MTA officials said the morning delays would not affect afternoon service.
