The State Highway Administration will begin a months-long, $3.2 million highway resurfacing project on Interstate 70 East in Howard County on Sunday, officials said.
Single- and double-lane closures between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. each day will likely cause traffic delays along the six miles of pavement being replaced, between Marriotsville Road and the Baltimore County line. Lanes will not be closed over Memorial Day weekend.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in the fall.
Contractor P. Flanigan & Sons, Inc., of Baltimore, has been hired to resurface the road and replace guardrails along the stretch of highway, the SHA said.
About 97,000 vehicles use the section of I-70 each day, and drivers are asked to plan more time for their commutes and drive slowly through the construction zone, which will be marked by traffic cones, signs and barrels.
