A 16-year-old boy died and a 17-year-old boy was injured in a single-car crash Sunday morning in Elkridge, Howard County police said.
The crash occurred around 5 a.m. in the 5500 block of Landing Road, when an 2014 Infinity QX60 SUV traveling south went off the road along a curve, hitting trees and a utility pole, police said. The 16-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Police identified the teen who died as Yash Mitul Shah of Pine Run Court in Ellicott City. A 17-year-old from Hanover was taken to Howard County General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Police said speed may have been a contributing factor in the collision. Shah was not licensed, police said.
The road was closed for several hours on Sunday morning.
